GMC has unveiled the next-generation 2027 Sierra 1500 pickup truck, promising a redesigned exterior, interior upgrades, and a revamped powertrain lineup. The 2027 model will launch in late 2026 with several trims, including the off-road-focused AT4X and the high-end Denali Ultimate. The new lineup introduces GM’s sixth-generation Small Block V8 engines and a suite of advanced digital displays and trailering technology.
New V8s and Powertrain Options
The most significant change under the hood involves the introduction of GM’s sixth-generation Small Block V8 engines. These powerplants are available in 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter sizes and feature redesigned combustion, cooling, and fuel injection systems. GMC will also continue to offer an updated TurboMax engine and a class-exclusive Duramax diesel option. Every engine in the 2027 lineup will be paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Michael MacPhee, the global vice president of Buick & GMC, described the truck as “the truck all others will be measured against.” He emphasized that the new Sierra combines “a new generation of Small Block V8 power, precise off-road capability, and our most immersive cabin experience to date.” The updated engines aim to improve performance and durability during daily driving, towing, and off-roading.

Interior and Exterior Design Updates
The 2027 Sierra features a more vertical front grille, a wider stance, and updated signature headlights and taillights with animation effects. Available quad exhaust tips round out the exterior changes. Inside, the cabin has been completely redesigned across all trim levels. Crew cab models will see more head and leg room, and a panoramic sunroof is available.
Materials have been upgraded, with real wood accents and forged wood appearing on the Denali Ultimate. A new MultiPro center console folds open to create a flat workspace while keeping USB charging ports accessible. Mark Dickens, the executive chief engineer for Full-Size Trucks and SUVs, noted that the Sierra is “purpose-built to conquer any task with an unmatched level of refinement, precision and capability.”
Tech-Heavy Denali Ultimate
The top-tier Denali Ultimate model comes standard with the new 6.6-liter V8 engine. It features over 60 combined inches of digital screens, including a 16.3-inch infotainment screen that articulates to reveal hidden storage behind it, an 11.5-inch passenger entertainment screen with a moving cover, a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15-inch head-up display, and an 8.5-inch rear camera mirror.

The interior audio is handled by a 16-speaker Bose system with speakers built into the front headrests. The truck also includes a three-year subscription to GM’s Super Cruise driver assistance system, allowing for hands-free driving on mapped highways in the U.S. and Canada while towing a trailer.
Off-Road Performance on the AT4X
For buyers seeking rugged capability, the 2027 AT4X includes several heavy-duty performance parts. It comes standard with 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, which are a first for the Sierra. The off-road package also includes Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers, front and rear electronic locking differentials, a 2-inch factory suspension lift, and a revised front fascia.
The interior of the AT4X features a unique Timber Mahogany color scheme, supportive front seats, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and stainless steel speaker grilles. For even more aggressive off-roading, GMC will continue to offer the upgraded AEV Edition package.
