Kia has unveiled its latest electric van, the PV7, at the IAA Transportation show in Hanover, Germany. This medium-sized van is the second model in Kia’s PBV electric van line-up, following the PV5 launched last year.
The PV7 is based on Kia’s E-GMP.S platform, featuring a flat-floor design. It will be available in both Cargo and Passenger variants, with Long, Standard, High Roof, and Chassis Cab options. Kia also plans to offer conversion models to cater to diverse needs.
Versatile Configurations for Cargo and Passengers
The PV7 Cargo variant will come in two- and three-seat versions. The Long version offers up to 6.1m³ of load space, while the High Roof variant provides up to 8m³. Maximum payloads range from 1,165kg for the Long version to 1,200kg for the Standard. The Long version can accommodate up to three Euro pallets with a 550mm load height.
The Passenger variant seats up to nine people. The seven-seat version includes easy-remove seats, while the nine-seat version offers flexibility with or without a fourth row.
Advanced Features and Technology
The PV7 introduces several innovative features, including a full-open twin-swing tailgate and a conventional lift-up tailgate. A smart walk away feature automatically closes the power sliding door when the driver leaves with the smart key. Additional features include a load-through bulkhead and independent cargo door lock/unlock functionality.
The van will be equipped with the Pleos Connect infotainment system, based on Android Automotive. This system includes connected navigation, flexible screen layouts, an open app marketplace, over-the-air updates, and the Gleo AI voice assistant.
For businesses, the PV7 will integrate with Kia’s Business Solutions Portal, offering a standardized fleet management system and connected vehicle data APIs. Kia’s Uptime services will provide real-time monitoring, predictive diagnostics, and proactive maintenance management.
Performance and Charging Capabilities
The PV7 will be available with two battery options: 71.5kWh and 96.2kWh. The Long Range Cargo variant boasts a maximum range of over 285 miles. The electric motor delivers up to 272PS to the front wheels, with an all-wheel drive version planned for the future.
Charging is efficient, with a 10-80% battery charge achievable in mid-20 minutes using a 350kW DC charger. The PV7 comes standard with a front AC/DC charging port and offers an optional rear side AC port.
The van also features vehicle-to-load functionality, allowing it to power external equipment. A heavy-load driving mode adapts the powertrain to different payloads, enhancing versatility for various applications.
For fleet operators, the PV7’s design and features aim to streamline operations, from loading efficiency to real-time vehicle monitoring. Small businesses and personal users may also find value in its adaptability and advanced technology.
Kia targets the PV7 at fleet, logistics, and shuttle operators, as well as SMEs and personal mobility customers. The van is set to go on sale in the second half of 2027, with UK specs and prices yet to be announced.
