Despite cities canceling contracts or police chiefs disabling their cameras, Flock Safety persists in reinstalling devices, as seen in Plymouth, MN.

On Wednesday, the company replaced an automatic license plate reading camera in Plymouth, Minnesota. This happened after the city canceled its Flock contract. The company failed to acknowledge the cancelation. The police chief had eventually unplugged the cameras.

A black Chevrolet Suburban was parked on the sidewalk on the westbound side of Rockford Road just west of Highway 494 with its tailgate up and a contractor on a ladder wrenching on a Flock camera. The contractor confirmed to The Drive he was hired by Flock Safety to replace the camera on the pole. That camera had been unplugged under the order of Plymouth Police Chief Eric Fadden.

The contractor said the current camera was being replaced “because it is broken.” He refused to provide a name or show the work order. The old camera was unplugged. The new replacement camera appears physically larger than the one it replaced.

After refusing further comment, the contractor made a phone call and got in the Suburban. Another black Chevrolet Suburban with blacked-out windows quickly arrived in the parking lot. No one emerged from the second SUV.

The Plymouth City Council voted on September 22nd to discontinue the use of Flock Safety’s ALPRs and end its contract. The vote came almost three months after four police officers wrongfully ambushed the author and his wife. The officers used Flock cameras to track them for days before the incident.
